Irish Water says Clare compares poorly to other locations when one looks at water leakage figures.
New figures released by the department of the environment show just under 50 per cent of water in the county is lost to leaks over ther course of the average year.

This is slightly above our neighbouring counties of Limerick and Galway who have a recorded leakage 40 and 43 per cent respectively.
Clare county council aims to lower that rate of waste by two per cent by the end of 2015.
But Gerry Grant Head of of Assest Management with Irish Water says there are significant problems to be tackled here.
