Poll shows Varadkar sexuality won’t damage chances of becoming Taoiseach

Nearly three quarters of the country think Leo Varadkar's sexuality won't damage his chances of becoming Taoiseach.

A new Millward Brown poll for today's Sunday Independent has found that 72 per cent of people believe coming out as gay won't influence the Health Minister's career.

Voters were also asked how they plan to vote in the same-sex marriage referendum and the response was an emphatic 'yes' – with 62 per cent claiming they'll vote in favour of it.

It's not the only controversial question that was asked – when it comes to abortion – over half the population wants a referendum to decide if we should repeal the 8th amendment.
