IFA Says Pork Sold as Irish Isn’t Necessarily From Ireland

A survey's found nearly a third of pork products sold as 'Irish' weren't from this country.

The Irish Farmers Association tested 91 products in December and found 29 per cent had DNA that was not from the Irish database.

Researchers went to independent butchers and supermarkets in Wexford, Galway, Cork and Cavan for the study.

26 non-Irish products were identified, and 25 of those had been obtained at a butcher's store.

The IFA is to meet with the retailers involved and re-testing will be carried out after a time.
