The victim of last night’s fatal shooting in Dublin has been named as 64-year-old Edward Nugent.
Nugent – who was shot at his house in Walkinstown at about 9.30 last night – was not known to Gardaí.
Forensic analysis is being carried out at the scene this morning – and Gardaí are yet to establish whether the victim was the intended target.
64-year-old Edward Nugent was shot dead through the glass screen door at the front of his house on Harty Avenue in Walkinstown at about 9.30 last night.
Nugent was retired and not known to Gardaí – and investigating officers are yet to work out whether he was the gunman’s intended target.
The victim was rushed to St James’s Hospital – where he was pronounced dead at about 10 o’clock last night.
A burned out car was found on John McCormack Avenue near the scene – and it was examined by garda experts overnight.
Forensic analysis of the crime scene will continue over the coming hours – and a post mortem will also be carried out this morning.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 9 and 10 last night to contact them.
