A Clare Primary School Principal says the sector still needs to fight for a reduction in pupil teacher ratio despite new rules.
Pat McNamara of Flagmount national school in east Clare has been welcoming a decision by the Minister for Education to alter requirements to have a certain number of students to retain teachers in small schools.
The change is contained in new measures aimed at ensuring the sutainability of small schools across the country.
The issue had cause serious difficulties for parts of Clare in the last year including Flagmount where they needed to get an additional 3 children registered for class to keep the school's third teacher.
Mr McNamara is welcoming the moves, but says the battle isn't won just yet.
