Clonlara have booked their place in the county hurling final after they overcame Newmarket on Fergus this afternoon by 1-14 to 1-9.

Clonlara led at half time by 6 points to three despite being reduced to 14 men after centre forward John Barry was sent off for two yellow cards.

Newmarket rallied at the start of the second half and scored three points in 2 minutes but Clonlara fough back to open a three point gap before Donal Madden struck for a goal in the 41st minute.

Clonlara then added scores from Nicky O Connell and Cormac O Donovan but endured an axious closing 5 minutes after Enda kelly goaled for Newmarket in the 56th minute to reduce the gap to 5 points at the final whistle.

Elsewhere Smith O’Briens have ensured their senior status for another season after a 2-12 to 1-14 win over Scariff.

In football and St Josephs will be competing in the senior championship next season after a 1-10 to 1-6 win over Ballyvaughan today while in minor football Clondegad beat Cooracalre in the B final as Lissycasey claimed the A title by a single point,the game finishing 11 points to 1-7 in favour of the first time winners.
