Sligo claim Fai Ford Cup after penos

Sligo Rovers have claimed the 2010 FAI Ford Cup after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Shamrock Rovers at the Aviva Stadium.

Sligo goal-keeper Ciaran Kelly was the hero – saving all four of the Rovers penalties in the shoot-out for a stunning win after the two sides had finished scoreless over 120 minutes.

It was no more than Paul Cook’s side deserved for their attacking ambition, while newly-crowned Premier Division champions, Shamrock Rovers were left to rue a missed opportunity to land a famous domestic double.

Arsenal have closed the gap on Chelsea at the top of the Barclays Premier League to just two points.

After Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea all dropped points, the Gunners emerged as the big winners over the weekend after goals from Bacary Sagna (pr: Back-ary San-ya) and Cesc Fabregas helped them to a two-one win over Everton at Goodison Park.

In contrast, Chelsea slumped to a three-nil defeat to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues suffered their second shock defeat in the space of a week after goals from Nedum Onuoha (pr: Ned-um On-ou-ha), Assamoah Gyan (pr: Jan) and Danny Wellbeck gave Steve Bruce’s side a deserved victory.

Earlier, Celtic needed a 90th minute winner from Garry Hooper as they came away from St Mirren with a narrow one-nil win.
