Clare’s lady handballers are also pushing for provincial success, none more so than Clooney’s Lisa Loughnane who plays the Intermediate Singles final this Saturday in Clooney against Kerry’s Karen Lawlor. Later in the day, Lisa’s sisters Sarah and Paula team up for the the Junior B Singles semi-final in Broadford against Limerick. Sarah is also through to the Singles semi-final, as is Aisling Fitzgerald of Tuamgraney who scored an emphatic 21-15, 21-12 quarter-final win over Kerry’s Ciara ni She this week and will also be hoping for Doubles success with partner Edel O’Grady.
The highlight of this weekend sees the Munster Open Championship run off in Broadford and Cappagh in Limerick. Clare’s two entrants are Tuamgraney clubmates Niall Malone and Diarmaid Nash. Malone is first into the fray tonight (Friday) when he takes on Ballina sharp-shooter Fergal Collins, with the winner facing reigning Munster Champion Dominic Lynch (Kerry) on Saturday. Nash, meanwhile, play’s Tipp man David Moloney in a Saturday quarter final with the winner in semi-final action later that day. The Munster Senior Open Singles Final is fixed for Sunday at 3pm in Bradford, Limerick.
