Clare secure draw on final football league campaign

Clare put in their best performance of the national football league to claim a 20 points to 1-17 draw against Wicklow in the final game of the campaign in Aughrim yesterday

Clare scored 15 of their total from play and were only denied the win by a last gasp Leighton Glynn goal for Mick O’ Dwyer’s side.

Clare manager Micheál McDermott says it was a good end to a bad league:

Longford and Roscommon got promoted from Division four while Limerick and Waterford will rejoin Clare in the basement tier next season after they were relegated yesterday,

In Division One of the Allianz Football League Cork secured a final berth against Dublin by beating Armagh by 2-15 to 1-12.

Galway will be playing Division Two football next season, their 15 points to 2-9 draw with a 14 man Dublin wasn’t enough to avoid relegation.

Monaghan were also relegated, they lost by 2-13 to 1-18 against Mayo  and  Kerry beat Down by 1-13 to 1-11.

To Division Two and Laois beat Donegal 1-15 to 1-11. The two sides will meet again as they contest the Division Final.

Sligo were relegated following their 16 point to 1-12 loss against Kildare.
