Tubber and Newmarket recorded wins on day one of the county senior hurling championship with respective victories over Cratloe and Ballyea.
Tubber overcame the 2009 champions for the second successive season thanks a goal in either half from veteran forward Eamon Taffe which helped them to the 3-14 to 2-12 win.

Newmarket blitzed Ballyea to record a 4-15 to 0-11 win in the first game in Cusack Park while in the opening game of the championship Clonlara and St Josephs shared the spoils after a 12 points each draw in Shannon.
