Two of the three most successful sides in the history of the Clare Senior Hurling Championship will do battle tonight in their first game of this year’s competition.

Sixmilebridge are many people’s favourites for this year’s Championship and will be looking to build on last year’s semi-final appearance.

They take on a Clarecastle side who reached last year’s Quarter Final only to be beaten by eventual champions Crusheen

Magpies manager Kenny Morrissey says their group 3 is this year’s group of death, but he’s not complaining.

Throw in at Cusack Park is at 7:00 tonight.

Tomorrow sees Crusheen begin the defence of the Canon Hamilton with a clash against Kilmaley – that game will also be held at the county grounds, beginning at 7:00 – before a feast of hurling action on Sunday.

First up in Scariff at 1:00, Killanena take on Smith O’Brien’s before a double header at Cusack Park – at 3:15 Whitegate play Inagh-Kilnamona and then at 4:45 Tulla will take on O’Callaghans Mills.

There are also three games in the Intermediate Championship this Sunday.

Parteen play Sixmilebridge, Crusheen play Clarecastle and Bodyke will take on Ryan.
