Kerry book place in Munster semi final

Kerry also booked their place in the last-four of Munster  after a 2-16  to 0-11  victory over Tipperary in Killarney – despite playing the second-half with 14 men.

In Leinster, Laois survived a late fight-back from Longford at O’Moore Park to clinch a narrow 10 points to 9 victory over Glen Ryan’s men in their first-round clash.

In the second game of the day in Portlaoise, Kildare also advanced after a 12 points to 5 victory over 14-man Wicklow.

The biggest shock of the day was in Markievicz Park where Leitrim upset their hosts Sligo by 1-10  to 0-10

In the first of this year’s Ulster quarter-finals, Derry enjoyed a convincing 1-17 to 1-10 win over Fermanagh.

Meanwhile, Westmeath defeated Carlow by 4-10  to 1-14 in their Leinster hurling championship preliminary round meeting.
