Former team mates say O Loughlin departure no surprise

Former inter county  team-mates of Ger O Loughlin have told Clare Fm it isn’t  surprising he stepped down as Clare manager following last Saturday’s All Ireland qualifer defeat to Galway.

Clare slumped to 4-25 to 0-20 loss in Salthill with O Loughlin resigning last night citing the need for a new voice and approach to be in the best interests of Clare hurling as his reason for departure.

Jamsie O Connor,who won two All Ireland’s alongside O loughlin in the 1990’s,  told Clare Fm that the managemnt clearly felt they could bring the team no further:

Clare failed to win any championship game under O loughlin’s tenure while alo failing   to gain promtion from Division Two.

His departure means he becomes the third manager in less than 10 days to step down following the departures of Colm Bonnar from Wexford and Joe Dooley in Offaly.

Former teammate Brian Lohan told Clare Fm that Sparrow took over at a difficult period  and he simply ran out of time :
