The Fai Festival of Football begins this morning in Clare with 5 clubs in the county expecting visits from Fai Chief executive John Delaney and soccer stars such as Ray Houghton and John Alridge.
The week long events will take in clubs in all corners of the Banner county and will culminate this Friday with Ireland soccer manager Giovanni Trapattoni announcing the Ireland squad for next month’s friendly against Croatia.
Over the course of the next five days all areas of the county will hold “fun days” and host special events to mark the FAI’s AGM next Saturday.
Today’s activities sees a plaque unveiling in Kilmaley for Connolly Celtic while Corofin harps host a schoolboy/girl blitz and Moher Celtic will be running a 5- a side competition.
Burren united will also be visited during the day with the community sports facility being opened at approximatley 4-30 in Lisdoonvarna.
The last event of today’s programme of events will take place in Ennistymon where a football blitz gets underway later this evening in Association with Sporting Ennistymon.
