Banner Ladies and West Clare Gaels booked their places in the Co. Senior Championship Final as a result of victories over Kilmihil and Miltown respectively in the semi finals which were played as a double header at Doonbeg last evening.
In the opening game Banner had a deserved 1-14 to 1-7 win over a disappointing Kilmihil who never really got going. Banner led 0-6 to 0-1 at the interval and a Niamh O’Dea goal just after the resumption opened an eight point lead. Kilmihil fought back and four unanswered points reduced the deficit to four but Banner replied with six in a row and closed out the game.
In the second semi final spectators were treated to an epic encounter. Eventually Co. Champions West Clare Gaels finished with three points to spare over a gallant Miltown. The match produced nine goals and at half time Miltown led 4-5 to 2-6. Eight points without reply after the resumption put West Clare Gaels three ahead but back came Miltown with goals from Fiona Lafferty and centre back Aoife Coyne to push three clear. However a Denise Geaney goal and three points from play from the outstanding Niamh Lardner, Leanne Lynch and sixteen year old Shauna Harvey sealed a three point win for West Clare Gaels on a final score of 3-17 to 6-5
