Manchester clubs bow out of Champions League

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson says being in the Europa league will be a disadvantage to their bid to retain the Premier league title.

The Red devils crashed out of Europe’s top club competition last night following a 2-1 loss to Basle in Switzerland, to make matters worse Nemanja Vidic could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury.

Fergie says the congested fixture list will make things difficult when their Europa league campaign starts next year.

Meanwhile

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini says while they are disappointed to be out of the Champions league they will give the Europa league their best effort.

City beat Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Etihad last night thanks to goals from Silva and Ya-ya Toure but Napoli beat Villareal 2-0 meaning they go through.

Mancini says they want to win the Europa League.
