McDermott believes performance not result key from McGrath Cup Opener

Clare Senior Football boss Micheál McDermott says his side’s performance will be more important than the result of Sunday’s McGrath Cup opener against the University of Limerick.

McDermott’s men go into the game as big favourites, given that UL haven’t won a game in the competition since 2009, while Clare reached last year’s final.

The Clare team lining out this Sunday has yet to be named, but will feature many of the men who played for the Banner in last year’s Championship, as well as some Under-21s.

The services of Mark Tubridy and Cathal O’Connor have been lost due to emigration however.

Micheál McDermott admits next month’s resumption of the National League is the focus for his team at present, though he insists they’ll go all out for the win in Doonbeg.
