Manager Giovanni Trapattoni didn’t call the Sunderland winger Mc Lean  into his original panel but said he had spoken to the former Derry player and told he will play in the future if his form holds.

The 22 year old has scored 4 goals in 14 appearances for the Black cat while Green has been a regular for Derby since returning form a seven month injury absence in November.

Meanwhile

Former Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinns departure from the club today is said to be amicable.

Quinn stepped down as Chairman to become director of international development last October but today cut all ties to concentrate on his own business interests.

The former Republic of Ireland striker  was responsible for bringing the current owner Ellis Short and manager Martin O’Neill to the club, Short says the ex-striker is and always will be a Stadium of Light legend.
