James Mc Clean has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday weeks friendly with Czech Republic at the Aviva.
Derby county midfielder Paul Green has also received the call bringing the size of the squad to 26.
Manager Giovanni Trapattoni didn’t call the Sunderland winger Mc Lean into his original panel but said he had spoken to the former Derry player and told he will play in the future if his form holds.
The 22 year old has scored 4 goals in 14 appearances for the Black cat while Green has been a regular for Derby since returning form a seven month injury absence in November.
Meanwhile
Former Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinns departure from the club today is said to be amicable.
Quinn stepped down as Chairman to become director of international development last October but today cut all ties to concentrate on his own business interests.
The former Republic of Ireland striker was responsible for bringing the current owner Ellis Short and manager Martin O’Neill to the club, Short says the ex-striker is and always will be a Stadium of Light legend.
