Rory McIlroy missed out on the chance to become world number 1 after he lost 2 and 1 to Hunter Mahan in the final of the WGC Accenture Matchplay Championships in Arizona.
McIlroy need to win the event to overtake Luke Donald to top spot but he was 3 down at the turn.

The US Open champion will try again at this week’s Honda Classic in Florida where Donald is not playing.
