There has been disappointment for Clare’s boxers at the national finals in Dublin this evening.
Keelan Sexton , fancied to take the Middleweight title having come through the Quarter and semi-finals in style , never got into his stride in his final with Ian Conroy from Ballyhaunis.
Conroy led 5-2 after the first but the Ennis boxer staged a big comeback in the second –winning the round 3-1 , only to tire palpably in the third, losing out 12-6 in the end.
Keelan’s sparmate Mike McDonagh was outclassed by Belfast Welterweight Brett McGinty from the Holy Trinity club on a 14- 7 scoreline .
Doolin’s Alan Sweeney was beaten 14-6 in his 80 kg final , but gave a good account of himself and his newly formed club much to the delight of his coach Martin Danagher.
