Schmidt takes over as Ireland coach

Incoming Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt says that he’s excited and highly-motivated by the prospect of taking-on one of the biggest jobs in world rugby.

The IRFU have confirmed that the New Zealand native has agreed a 3-year contract that will see him take charge of the side up until after the 2016 Six Nations.

The out-going Leinster coach says he will take some time to consider the make-up of his backroom team and says he will mull over his choices over the next 4-6 weeks before finalising his decision.

In the meantime, current assistant coach Les Kiss will take charge of this summer’s tour of North America as planned.
