Playing with the advantage of the wind in the first half, Clare were dominant and a Deirdre Murphy goal helped them to a 1-08 to 0-00 score at the break.

But with the winds at their back, Derry fought back in the second half scoring five unanswered points, and while Clare McMahon scored two of the next three Clare scores, a goal for the Northerners through Karen Kielt to ensure the gap remained at six.

That was as close as it got however, with Derry only scoring one point in the last ten minutes, compared to two Lisa Loughnane goals for Clare which ensured the 11 point win.

Clare’s next game is away to Kilkenny next week – the Cats beat Galway 1-10 to 1-08 when they met earlier.
