County Board meet to address fixture difficulties

Last night the Clare County board held a special meeting to address the fixtures issue arising out of Clare’s involvement in the latter stages of the All Ireland championship series at both Senior and Under 21 level.

Just one round of the Senior Hurling championship has been played, while there are still round 2 football fixtures to be played.

Addressing the issue of fixtures at this Special Meeting of the Clare County Board, County board chairman Michael McDonagh began by extending his congratulations to the Senior Hurlers on their Semi final success over Limerick, praising the young heads on old Shoulders.

""Following some debate around round two of the senior football championship, it was decided that the affected Clubs Wolfe Tones, Clondegad, Cratloe and Cooraclare would meet with the fixtures committee in Clareabbey on Wednesday night to come to an agreement on fixture details.

As is the case for the Clare Cup semi finalists, Newmarket on Fergus, Inagh Kilnamona, O’Callaghans Mills and Tubber.

Round two of the senior Hurling championship will go ahead on September 21st, if not earlier, depending on the outcome of Clare’s Under 21 semi final against Galway on Saturday and All Ireland Final involvement in that grade.

The Draw for Round 3 of the Senior Football Championships was also held, with the pairings as follows.

The Winner of Shannon Gaels V Lissycasey V St Joesphes Doora Barefield

Kilmurry Ibrickane,will take on O’Currys

While finally the Winner of Clondegad and Wolfetones, will play the losers of Cooraclare and Cratloe.

County board Secretary Pat Fitzgerald said clubs showed a great willingness to work with the committee.
