Claremen To Be Honoured On All-Ireland Final Day

Three Clare men have been selected on the GAA’s Hurling ‘Stars of the ’80s’ team which will be honoured on All-Ireland hurling final day on Sunday September 8 when Clare meet Cork at Croke Park.

As the hurling and football titles were both retained 25 years ago, by Galway and Meath respectively, the GAA have decided to acknowledge some of be best 15 hurlers from the 1980s who did not win All-Ireland senior medals.

Feakle’s Ger Loughnane, who was Clare’s first all star and of course later managed the county side, will be joined on the team by two other Claremen.

Sean Stack of Sixmilebridge won an all-star in 1981 as well as two National Leagues with Clare, while Clarecastle’s John Callinan won two All-Stars as well as a pair of National League medals also.

Meanwhile, full details have been confirmed for the All Ireland Under 21 Hurling Final between Clare and Antrim. As expected, the match will take place at Semple Stadium on September 14th. The game will have a 5:00 throw-in and Corkman Colm Lyons will be the man in the middle.
