Clare Overcome Limerick In Oscar Traynor Opener

Clare began their Oscar Traynor Cup campaign with a dramatic win over Limerick last night.

Liam Murphy’s side were strongest in the first half, with goals from Eoin Hayes, Colin Smyth and and David McCarthy putting them three up at the break.

That became four when Hayes scored his second five minutes into the second half.

However, three quick Limerick goals reduced the margin to one with ten minutes to go, but Newmarket’s Eoin Hayes scored to secure his hat-trick, and a crucial 5-3 win for Clare in the first match under floodlights at the County Grounds in Doora.
