Also missing from the first 15 are Paul O’Connell, Sean O’Brien and Cian Healy, who all start amongst the substitutes.

Meanwhile, O’Connell has also been named as the new Ireland captain.

The Munster second row is named on the bench on Saturday, so vice-captain Jamie Heaslip will lead out the side against Samoa, after Joe Schmidt revealed that Brian O’Driscoll had asked to be ruled out of the running for the captaincy.

Leinster prop Jack McGrath makes his test debut after being named in the front-row, while Dave Kearney could also make his first Ireland appearance off the bench.
