Jermaine Defoe became the club’s record goalscorer in Europe, as the London side beat FC Sheriff 2-1 at White Hart Lane. Defoe’s goal came from the penalty spot, with the other Spurs goal coming from Erik Lamela.

Swansea and Wigan were both in action yesterday too. The Swans were held to a 1-all draw by their hosts, Kuban Krasnodar as the Russian side grabbed a late equaliser, while Wigan were beaten 1-nil by Rubin Kazan.
