Gilligan Open To One More Year With Sixmilebridge

Former Clare star Niall Gilligan has stepped back from suggestions that he is to retire from hurling.

In the aftermath of Sixmilebridge’s Munster final loss to Na Piarsaigh, Gillie had told reporters that he was considering hanging up his boots after a near twenty-year career which saw him claim Munster and All-Ireland titles for both club and county, as well as one All-Star.

Now though, he says he will return to training in 2014, though he’s held back from committing himself to a full year’s Championship action for now.

Meanwhile, Cork’s Tom Kenny has announced his inter-county retirement. The Grenagh player won all Irelands in 2004 and 2005 and says he’s stepping down to give young players the chance to come through.
