Champions React to Club Championship Draws

Sixmilebridge Manager John O'Meara admits 2013 celebrations are over, as they now contemplate the 2014 Senior Hurling championship and the defence of their Canon Hamilton Title.

The Club championship draws were held last night, and see the county champions drawn in arguably the most difficult group alongside 2010 and 2011 champions Crusheen, 2009 Champions Cratloe, and a young Kilmaley side who last won the title in 2004.

Group 2 is made up of Newmarket on Fergus, Tulla, Tubber and Clarecastle, while group 1 consists of Ballyea, Clonlara, Clooney Quin and Inagh-Kilnamona.

O'Meara, reacting to Clare FM on Sideline View admits his side have drawn a very tough group against proven champions.

The opening round of the Hurling Championship is down for 11 weeks time with round one pencilled in for May 17th/18th

Cratloes Martin Oige Murphy admits everyone will be out to knock the county champions off their perch, and anticipates a revenge battle from Eire Og in the opening round of the Senior football Championship.

After the football draws last night, in a repeat of last years Semi final, Cratloe go up against the Townies in the opening round.

It's the stand out tie in the draw that also see's Shannon Gaels take on St Joseph's Doorabarefield, Ennistymon meet last years beaten finalists Doonbeg, Lissycasey take on Liscannor, St Breckans clash with Clondegad, O'Curry's meet last years intermediate champions St Josephs Miltown Malbay, Kilmurry Ibrickane challenging St Senans Kilkee in the opening round, and Kilrush Shamrocks taking on Cooraclare.

Reacting to the draw Cratloes Oige Murphy told Clare FM he knows Eire Og will be a massive battle in their opening game, as they look to rectify what happened last year.

Round one of the Senior Football championship will be played in late July/early August depending on the fortunes of intercounty teams.
