The visitors to Cusack Park led by by 2-7 to 0-3 after just 15 minutes, with Conor McDonnell and Liam Og McGovern getting the goals. Clare rallied to reduce the gap to 5 points at half time, thanks mainly to 6 points from Colin Ryan. Clare were reduced to 14 men when Podge Collins was given a red card for interfering with an opponents helmet. At the break, Wexford led 2-9 to 0-10.

Clare reduced the gap to two points in the second half, but struggled to get much closer at times. Colin Ryan's frees kept Clare in the game, with Conor McGrath in sparkling form as well. Wexford opted to take a point from a late penalty, which put four points between the sides, 2-18 to 0-20.

Just a minute later, Clare were awarded a penalty. Tony Kelly saw his effort saved, but sub Seadna Morey slotted the rebound home, and Conor Ryans late score took the game to extra time.

Clare led by 2-22 to 2-21 at half time in extra time, Cathal McInerneys injury time score the difference. His Cratloe teammate and man of the match Conor McGrath scored the goal with a cool finish at the scoreboard end.

McGrath was pivotal in extra time, and his fourth point of the game looked to have been enough to clinch the win. Back came Wexford again though and it was Paul Morris who ensured the All Ireland champions would be visiting the sunny south east next Saturday.

Final scoreline in Cusack Park was Clare 2-25 Wexford 2-25.

Full fixture details will be confirmed by the GAA on Monday.
