Collins: U21 success in 2009 showed squad were special

Cratloe manager Colm Collins has identified their U21 A Football victory in 2009 as a turning point for the club.

His comments come after the South Clare side captured their second Jack Daly in a row, beating Eire Óg by 2-12 to 0-11 to become the first side since 1914 to do the double in Clare.

Collins says the aftermath of that U21 win over Ennistmyon was the first sign this was a special group of players.

Meanwhile captain Michael Hawes has praised the leaders on the Cratloe side for delivering another title to the club.

Podge Collins was chosen as Man of the Match, finishing with a personal tally of 1-4, while Conor McGrath raised Cratloe's first green flag after just 7 minutes.

Hawes says it was a proud moment to lift Jack Daly.

Eire Óg selector Mattie Murphy meanwhile has identified Cratloes last score of the opening half as one the definining moments of the game.

The Townies had fought back from trailing by 2-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes to reduce the gap to just three points.

Liam Markham pointed to leave Cratloe ahead by 4 points at the break, and Murphy says that moment was crucial.
