Foley backs Munster defence ahead of European opener

Head Coach Anthony Foley has named his first European matchday squad as Munster begin their inaugural European Champions Cup campaign away to Sale Sharks.

 
In total seven changes are made to the starting line-up that defeated Scarlets 17-6 in last weekend's Guinness PRO12 action
 
In the front row Dave Kilcoyne and Stephen Archer will start on either side of hooker Duncan Casey
 
In the second row Dave Foley resumes his partnership with the returning Paul O'Connell while the back-row of Captain Peter O'Mahony, Tommy O'Donnell and CJ Stander remains unchanged.
 
In the half-backs Conor Murray starts alongside Ian Keatley, with Denis Hurley partnering Andrew Smith in the midfield.
 
Winger Andrew Conway makes his first European appearance for the province starting in a back three that includes Simon Zebo and Felix Jones.

Killaloe man Anthony Foley has given his sides defence a vote of confidence ahead of the game

Meanwhile in some bad news on the injury front for the province, it has been confirmed that forward Damien Varley requires further treatment on his left foot, and is scheduled to undergo surgery next week.

The Killaloe man, who returned against Leinster two weeks ago reported discomfort after the game and has now been ruled out for the immediate future.
