The show opened with an interview with Clare Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley who is calling for clarity on the uses and nature of the public service card, amid concerns that its extended use amounts to the introduction of a national identity card, by stealth.

The discussion then focused on the potential impact for farmers of the extension of the card’s uses. John Comer, the head of the ICMSA, joined Gavin on the line, along with Clare IFA Chair, Willie Hanrahan. Both agreed that linking the card to farm payments would put another unwelcome burden on the community.

Donal Ó Lionsigh, presenter of Cúl Caint on Clare FM was Gavin’s next guest, as a row rumbles over the decision of Bank of Ireland to phase out ATMs which offer the option of doing transactions through Irish. Listen back below:

The show rounded off with a chat with country superstar, Liverpool lad, Nathan Carter. He’s playing the Marquee at the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival tomorrow (Sat, Sept 1) at 7pm.
