Morning Focus – Friday 19th July 2019

On Fridays Morning Focus we looked at how there are always a variety of birds in the area close to the Post Office field, next to Fergus river in Ennis.

There are claims, though, that this year has seen a serious decrease in numbers with only one Mallard duck nest to be found and claims that several duckling have died. The situation has caused a number of local people to come together to address the situation. Clare FM’s Emma McGrievy spoke to some of them, including artist and special needs consultant, Vera Raftery.  Clare FM’s Emma McGreivy also spoke with teacher Cornelia Vahl and businessman Martin Waldron.

We looked at the Munster Fleadh that got underway last Sunday with a wealth of live performance, workshops, competitions and a live gig rig which will rock into action this afternoon.

Fr Gabriel Kinahan and some of his colleagues will be ‘loitering with intent’ over the coming days – but for a very good reason.
He’s a Franciscan Friar from Athlone who will be ministering on the streets of Ennis and raising awareness of the Church’s teachings responding to the climate emergency and the protection of the environment.
Some of his colleagues will even be joining in by playing music outside the Friary later today and tomorrow. They’ll also be celebrating a special mass at noon on Sunday on the theme of caring for creation.

A number of Clare’s motor dealers have been meeting earlier this morning with our four Dáil deputies to discuss issues of concern to the sector.
Ahead of Budget 2020, they’re asking for a number of measures to be enacted, including changes to VRT and the motor tax bands.
Tom Cullen of the Society of the Irish Motor Industry joined Pat in studio to explain why they are calling for these changes.

On This Weeks Friday Panel:

  • Is the HSE restructuring taking us back to the future?
  • What are the options for the Moneypoint plant and workforce?
  • Are we doing enough to protect farmers fairly from global shocks?
  • Should be be going back to the moon?

We were joined by:

Orla Vaughan from Kilfenora
Martin McMahon of O’Callaghan’s Mills
Ger O’Halloran from Quin
