Morning Focus – Friday 25/08/17

Today’s Morning Focus marked the end of busy week of chat, discussion and interviews and rounded off with a visit from the Friday Panel.

The show opened with a panel discussion about what kind of festivals and events Ennis might develop to build on the success of the Fleadhs of 2016 and 2017. Gavin was joined in studio by Will Cahir, President of Ennis Chamber of Commerce and by Darragh McAllister, Clare Chairperson of the VFI. Muireann Duffy, meanwhile, was out and about gathering some views from the people of Ennis. Listen back below:

The talk then turned to the much-anticipated bout between The Notorious Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. Gavin spoke to Kevin Byrne of the Irish Sun.

Topics for discussion when the Friday Panel gathered in studio included controversy surrounding religious and historical statues; solutions to the accommodation crisis – including the use of barges for student accommodation; building on the success of the Fleadh down in Ennis; and the Notorious Conor McGregor. Friday’s show concluded with a round-up of arts and entertainment events, including a chat with Tansy Watson of Irish Seed Savers in Scarriff where an open event is taking place on Sunday (Aug. 27). As part of Heritage Week, Irish Seed Savers are inviting the nation to come visit and celebrate ‘The Great Irish Garden’.

Gavin then chatted with Claire Cassidy who told him about a 5km walk taking place in Lee’s Road on Sunday at 12pm for the Irish Guide Dogs. Listen back below:
