Morning Focus Friday December 23rd

On today’s Morning Focus Clare FM’s John Cooke spoke to Niall Moloney, Operations Manager at Shannon Airport. They discussed how Shannon Airport is gearing up for its busiest day of Christmas travel today as many people make their way home for the festive season. Around 45,000 passengers are expected to use the airport over the Christmas period, and management are reporting a festive atmosphere with lots of joyful re-unions for local families from Clare and the wider mid-west region. Bus and rail services are also anticipating a busy day for travel, while motorists are being advised to drive with care as work holidays arrive for many and the Christmas rush gets underway.

Clare FM’s Niamh McNamara visited Clare Castle Day Care Centre for their annual Christmas Party. All this week clients at the Clarecastle Day Care Centre were celebrating the season. The day-care centre is a place where the elderly can go to socialise, have their meals, learn or develop their computer or art skills and where they can also avail of the hairdressing, chiropody and bathing facilities. It is always a happy place but even more so on Christmas week.
Morning Focus Producer Niamh McNamara headed out on Tuesday afternoon and met and spoke with some of the clients, volunteers and staff there.

Niall Ennis, Chef and owner of Carrygerry House in Newmarket on Fergus
Joined John Cooke in studio to speak about making cooking for Christmas less stressful and simpler

Christmas is a time that many of us associate with great festive entertainment, including classic movies like Willie Wonka or the more modern remake of the Roald Dahl inspired classic – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Well known Ennis man, and vintage car enthusiast Peadar White is proud to own a car featured in the filming of the more modern version of the movie – Charlie and the chocolate factory. John’s been speaking to Peadar White about his 1954 Austin Somerset – which has become more fondly known by local children as Willie Wonka’s car!

Members of the Ennis Cathedral Choir; Willie Moloney from Cahercalla, Sean Ruane, Michael Cullinan, Tony Murray, Gertrude Hogan, Maura Ryan, Helen Minogue and Cathy Desmond were live in studio to celebrate Christmas through song. The Cathedral Choir has been associated with liturgy in the Cathedral for over 100 years and today boasts 43 members. There are 35 women and 8 men – and they are always seeking members, particularly men.
