Morning Focus Monday 19th August

On today’s Morning Focus the spotlight was fixed firmly on yesterday’s outstanding win. Clare are into the All Ireland hurling final, following a fantastic victory over Limerick. John Cooke spoke with Senior Hurling Manager Davy Fitzgerald about how his side overcame our near neighbours 1-22 to 0-18 at Croke Park, to book a spot in the final with Cork on September 8th.  The senior hurlers are already looking ahead to next month’s All Ireland Final, and vowing to once again do the county proud. It’s 16 years since Liam McCarthy last came to the Banner County, a wait that will come to an end should Davy’s men overcome Cork on September 8th. Also joining the conversation was Chairman of the Clare GAA County Board, Michael ”Malty” McDonagh, who paid tribute to Davy , the team and all those behind them and Lisa Lawlor from Clare FM Sport.

Crime Prevention Officer with the Clare Garda Division, Sergeant Joe Downey was also in studio for today’s edition of Garda Focus.  He discussed a recent spate of burglaries around the county.

Ger ‘Sparrow’ O’Loughlin, a former Clare Senior Hurling Manager from Clarecastle also joined John on the show to give his reaction to yesterday’s win over Limerick and his hopes for Clare against Cork in the All Ireland Hurling Final on September 8th.

Robert Kennedy from Kennedy’s Centra in Lahinch also joined John today following the news of a major lotto win in North Clare. Speculation is rife as to who is over 6 million euro richer today after Saturday’s lotto jackpot was won in Lahinch. The four euro quick pick, purchased from Kennedy’s Centra on Back Lane in Lahinch, is now worth nearly 6.16 million to it’s mystery owner. The winning numbers, in case it could be you, are 4, 11, 16, 33, 43 and 45.

Colm Flynn from Ennis, a former Clare FM presenter joined the show to let us know about how he is set to  present an extra show during the 9pm RTE news during the televised finals of the Rose of Tralee. The special show will go out live world wide on ww.rte.ie  and according to Colm it’s going to be like the ‘Xtra Factor’ of the Rose of Tralee!

John Murphy from the Clare branch of Birdwatch Ireland was in studio for his regular feature on birds and wildlife in the county.  He answered your queries and discussed how Portuguese Men of War jellyfish have been stinging swimmers in Kilkee recently
