Morning Focus Monday January 14

On Monday’s Morning Focus Marian Egan spoke with Bernard Gloster, HSE Area Manager for the Mid-West, who moved to reassure people who have relatives in St Joseph’s Hospital, Ennis that the care there is of the highest standard
This is in the wake of a HIQA report published last week
The HSE admits it’s current budgetary position is preventing efforts to address the ‘unsuitability’ of an Ennis nursing home for long-term care
HIQA has criticised the Health Service Executive for making ‘no progress’ in addressing issues with the building at St. Joseph’s Hospital, saying it’s layout and design impacts ‘on the privacy and dignity’ of it’s 118 patients
While the report is otherwise complimentary of staff and practices at St. Joseph’s, HIQA is critical of a lack of progress in addressing problems
However, a HSE spokesman says it’s current budgetary position presents a ‘significant challenge’ in undertaking the necessary works.

Michael McNamara TD of the Labour Party and Fianna Fail Deputy Timmy Dooley reacted to the Oireachtas Health Committee hearings on abortion last week.
