A community based group has started in Parteen with the express objective of
submitting to and participating in the consultation process for the proposed
Limerick Northern Distributor Road. The group holds the following views:
1 – A road of this scale through the heart of Parteen village will destroy
village life as it exists today
2 – The prudence of building such a road, and the need for it, are
questionable in the current economic climate
3 – There are alternative routes for such a road which need to be explored
further before any decision is taken to cut the village of Parteen in two
4 – The emerging preferred route crosses rural farmland which is home to a
protected species of Frog whose habitat will be completely destroyed by this
road
5 – If such a road is to proceed along the route suggested, all measures
must be taken to ensure the safety of the young and elderly in the community
who use the existing road to access the school, church, recreational areas,
shops and other village amenities
6 – Such a road must take full account of the environmental impact of the
increase traffic including noise, air, light and water pollution
Edward English of the Environmental Community of Parteen, Clonlara resident Pat Keane
and Pat Sherry in Parteen joined Marian to voice their concerns.

There is a community meeting taking place this evening to discuss the impact of the road on the community at 8pm Parteen National School hall
