On Thursday's Edition of Morning Focus with John Cooke

Over 500 properties are to be added to Clare's social housing waiting list by 2017. The government has announced funding of just over 26 million Euro to tackle the three thousand long waiting list here.
Clare County Council is expected to use the funding to build new homes in Quilty, Ennis, Tulla and Kilrush and to purchase other properties across the county over the next two years. The government claims the county will also see a significant jobs boost off the back of this new programme. Joe Carey Fine Gael TD, Councillor Gerry Flynn Chair of the local authority's Housing Special Policy Committee and Jackie Bonfield General Manager Mid West Simon Community all outlined the promise of this announcement.

The infamous traffic blackspot has been the subject of a great deal of controversy in recent months – after Clare County Council announced plans to construct a new road to divert motorists away from it.
Following over two months of communications between a local committee and the CCC a public consultation process is set to take place this may. This will involve an event in Ennistymon where residents will have an opportunity to meet with engineers, consultants and those involved in the project to dicuss the options and any concerns. Clare County Council is encouraging members of the community to take part in the both the open event and in putting together a written submission on Blake's Corner.

A deeply personal film by award-winning documentary filmmaker Daisy Asquith, After the Dance focuses on Daisy's own mother, conceived to unmarried parents in Ireland and adopted by an English family, as she goes in search of her roots in West Clare. A visit to a confession box, intercut with archive footage (Daisy’s mother being interviewed in a pub and chatting with locals) lends itself to a ’stage Irish’ view of rural Ireland. However, when the long-lost relatives are eventually discovered, Daisy – the natural communicator who likes to see the world through other people’s eyes – takes us on a journey far from West Clare and beyond her mother’s quest to understand her mysterious Irish past – a past we are all too familiar with. Daisy spoke to John about the documentary.
