Irish Water will need 25 years to reduce leakage to acceptable levels – and at least 10 years to eliminate lead piping from public mains. A report released by the company lists Shannon as a town that fails to meet EU Standards. While the state utility also includes Ballyvaughan, Clarecastle, Kilkee, Kilrush and Liscannor as locations where raw sewage flows into the sea. The details are contained in Irish Water's 25 year investment plan published today. Paul Melia is the Irish Independent Environment Correspondent, he spoke to Clare FM's Aisling O'Rourke more on this.

John Lernihan is a resident of Gallows Hill Estate Ennis, he spoke to us following his refusal to allow Irish Water to install a meter on his property. Irish Water contractors have been in his estate in recent days/weeks fitting meters for his neighbours, however John has not been approached. Why? John has a sign on his lawn outlining their ban on his premises.

Councillor John Crowe spoke to us following his meeting with Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Pascal Donohue, T.D., in Dublin yesterday along with a delegation of County Councillors from the West of Ireland, to express their concerns about the proposed sale of Aer Lingus to IAG. They stressed the necessity of securing a 15-year guarantee from IAG in respect of Shannon's Heathrow slots and service levels as the 5-year guarantee proposed by IAG CEO Willie Walsh does not give sufficient confidence to companies seeking to invest in the region and does not assure the connectivity that is required for the West of Ireland.
