Morning Focus Thursday January 12

“Sue” and “James” are members of the Clare area Narcotics Anonymous support group
They joined John Cooke in studio on Thursday’s Morning Focus to tell their personal stories of addiction and recovery
They also encouraged anyone who is struggling with narcotics addiction to come along to a local meeting that is taking place next Tuesday in St. Anthony’s Hall, Ennis between 8pm and 9.30pm
NA are encouraging people with narcotics issues and their loved ones to attend

Dr Adrian Kavanagh of the Department of Geography at NUI Maynooth had a word about the Constituency Commission with regard to South East Clare and the Midwest.  He said Clare as a constituency is a straight forward four seater with a perfect population for it
Westbury Councillor Pascal Fitzgerald also spoke about how his supporters in his electoral area for the council could not vote for him in a general election as they come under the Limerick East constituency.

A new hotline to help people who don’t want to pay the 100 euro household charge has been launched
The ‘Campaign Against Household and Water Taxes’ group has also revealed it now hopes one million people will refuse to pay the charge
The new anti-Household Tax hotline number was launched yesterday
Activists and TDs opposed to the tax will have a banner and T-shirts promoting the 1890 number outside the Dail afterwards
The Campaign hotline number is  1890 98 98 00
Thomas Pringle TD, a Donegal Independent who is a member of the Campaign Against Household Charges spoke with John.  

Chris Quin. a resident of Cluain Airne in Shannon is organising a public meeting to oppose the Household Charge this Saturday in Tullyvarraga Hall at 1.30pm
He encouraged all people who oppose the charge to come along
Chris is originally from Ballyhea in North Cork where weekly marches opposing the EU IMF Bailout take place

Dearbhail McMahon and Siobhan Nestor, transition year students from Scoil Mhuire  Ennistymon spoke with John from the Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS, Dublin
Their project, along with fellow studentSinead O’Brien, is entitled: Are You Sure? An investigation into the effectiveness of a natural antiperspirant versus a synthetic antiperspirant
They are entered in the Biological and Ecological category
Research continues into a possible link between breast cancer and antiperspirant deodorant usage as this prevents sweating
The aim of their project is to test the effectiveness of some natural deodorants against mass-produced, synthetic antiperspirants using many classmates as guinea pigs
