Morning Focus Thursday October 17

On Thursday’s Morning Focus John Cooke spoke with Clare Deputies Michael McNamara of the Labour Party and Joe Carey of Fine Gael asking for their comments on the changes announced in the budget on Tuesday.

Irish National Teachers’ Organisation Vice President and Mullagh NS Principal Sean McMahon also gave the teaching union’s reaction to the education measures announced on Tuesday
He expressed concern for the future of small rural schools.

Economist with economic thinktank TASC – Tom McDonnell -is the keynote speaker at a public meeting regarding the implications of Budget 2014 and the outline of another approach that could help people escape poverty that is taking place in the Templegate Hotel tomorrow at 10am
There will also be speakers from MABS, CIS and others at the event
Tom is currently working on an analysis and critique of how the Government allocates money to different areas of expenditure – he spoke with John about Budget 2014.

Ennis National School’s Walking Bus and other initiatives are being undertaken by Ennis National School, in conjunction with Ennis Town Council and An Taisce Green Schools – they are designed to alleviate traffic congestion in and around the new school
Ray McInerney, Principal of Ennis National School and Alan Morrissey, Engineer with Ennis Town Council spoke about how it has been going.
