Today on Morning Focus, we were joined in studio by Fierna Kennedy who is a Psychotherapist who works with people with Eating Disorders, as this week is Eating Disorder Awareness Week!

To open Morning Focus we spoke to Grace O’Sullivan, Green Party MEP for Ireland South, as the issues at Moneypoint have been focused on in the European Commission’s latest report on Ireland. In it, the impact the potential job losses at the site could have are discussed – but also the potential to employ those affected in new areas after a re-skilling or up-skilling process. It’s as part of a wider section that covers the challenges associated with a ‘Just Transition’ to a climate-neutral economy.

Next on the show, James Gallagher, Chairman, Clare COPD ( Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ) Support Group joined us on the line to discuss the impact Coronavirus will have on those with respiratory issues. Global evidence shows that the majority of those who get the coronavirus suffer from mild or moderate symptoms. But it has caused 3,000 deaths around the world, mainly in older people and in those with underlying health problems, including respiratory issues.

After the 10 am news we were joined in studio by transition year students of Rice College, Miku, Jamie Moore and Oisin Madigan as they are raising money for disabled people in Africa by taking part in a major used clothes collection – which will help raise funds for the project in Africa. They’re hoping to be able to help fund solar lamps for use in helping disabled people get around at night time.
