Morning Focus Tuesday 8th July

On Tuesdys's Morning Focus Marian began by speaking to Clare FM's Aisling O'Rourke as a man in his forties remains in Garda custody this morning, in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in a quarry near the Cliffs of Moher.  41-year-old Adrian Folan, originally from Carraroe, had been missing from Athlone since last week, and Garda investigations into his disappearance led officers to search the area at Moher yesterday.  Aislinmg was at the scene yesterday and gives us the latest details.  We also hear from Sgt Joe Downey Clare Crime Prevention Officer and Clare Senator Martin Conway.

It appears the ball is in Garth Brooks court over his Croker concerts.  Dublin City Council confirmed last night that only 3 of the shows can go ahead. This is what we know this morning in the ongoing drama over the Garth gigs.  There's no possibility to amend or appeal Dublin City Councils licensing decision – meaning that 3 of the gigs can go ahead if Garth himself decides to play.  He had said that its was 5 or none but he stands to lose millions if he pulls out. But throw in a high court action lodged against the 3 gigs and continued allegations of fake objections to the shows and this controversy is far from simple. Promoters Aikens said that a decision would be made today – so its all eyes on them and Garth who has the final say amd Peter Aiken is on his way to the US to try to resolve the issue.  Marian spoke to Journalist with TheJournal.ie – Aoife Barry to get the very latest.

Is social media having a negitavie impact on your mental health?  That's a question Eoin Whelan – Lecturer of Business Information Systems Group at the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics in the National University of Ireland, Galway asked himself recently.  He looked deeper into the idea with his students. The analysis revealed a clear pattern. The more time a student spent on social media, the more likely they are to exhibit the symptoms of NPD – Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Adding in exam performance data exposed another insight. Despite the exaggerated confidence in their capabilities, narcissists tend to perform poorly in exams.

In our new DIY slot Marian was joined in studio by DIY expert Gerry Bredin.  Every second Tuesday Gerry will be in studio to answer all you DIY queries as well as giving advice to DIY enthusiasts.  This week we take a look at painting outside.  If you have a project you have started send us a picture, we would love to take a look.

Remembering Killaloe, by well-known retired barrister and legal author Henry Murdoch, is a book that looks back on Murdochs childhood in the towns, Killaloe and Ballina, over 50 years ago. In it Murdoch describes growing up in a beautiful place, full of history and full of characters. He and his friends lived on boats, fished on the Shannon and on Lough Derg.  Marian spoke to Henry about the book.

Finally, Clare Dog Warden Frankie Coote joined John for his regular slot with advice on proper animal care and animal owners' legal responsibilties. Contact Clare Animal Shelter on 065 6820393.
