Morning Focus Tuesday April 30

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke was joined in studio by Dr Mosagee Bhamjee, Consultant Psychiatrist and former Labour TD to discuss the upcoming publication of legislation on Abortion expected later today

The Cabinet is expected to approve draft heads of legislation on abortion at its meeting this morning
Drafting work continued late last night, but it is anticipated that agreement will be reached between Fine Gael and Labour on the shape of the proposed legislation
It is now 21 years since the Supreme Co  urt judgment in the X Case, which found that abortion was legal under the Constitution, if there was a real and substantial risk to the life of the mother
The court held that this included the threat of suicide
This morning, the Government is expected to approve the draft heads of legislation setting out the conditions under which such abortions can be carried out
