The government’s JobBridge national internship scheme reached its target of 5,000 internships yesterday
On Tuesday’s Morning Focus John Cooke discussed the scheme with employers and representatives of the unemployed

Tony Donohue, Head of Education Policy at the Irish Business Employers Confederation said IBEC lobbied intensely to put a scheme like JobBridge in place

Brid O’Brien of the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed said that there are a lot of minimum wage placements and then other placements that are for very senior positions
The INOU would prefer to see some middle scale internships saying there is a lack of middle ranking positions
brid also had some reservations about it but says it does work out for some – it depends on the industry and the company

Maria Dillane of Banner Motor Factors, Ennis had a word about their experience taking on interns
Banner Motor Factors have participated in JobBridge and have given full time employment to a number of these.

The Cratloe Community Playground has been experiencing problems when parking peaks on Sunday – the management have decided to closed it on Sunday due to the problems associated with people parking along the public road, causing congestion and disruption to local residents and users of the woods
The playground will be closed on Sundays for the foreseeable future until a long
term solution is found
Cratloe Playground Committee request that visitors to its playground only park in the car park
Richard Rice explained that Coilte are currently working to improve the carpark for the patrons of the playground.
 
Last Friday Matteo Petitti was taking a walk on the White Strand, Miltown Malbay and found a dead stranded long-finned pilot whale
He contacted the Irish Dolphin and Whale Group who came out and had a look at it taking a skin sample for DNA testing
Dr Simon Berrow of the Irish Dolphin and Whale Group said there has been an unprecedented amount of Whales being washed up on Clare’s coast this year

The third annual Pakie Ryan Challenge takes place in Newmarket on Fergus on the 24th of March  Pakie was a popular young fellow involved in soccer, hurling and handball in the community who tragically died of cancer last year on the 5th of April 2009 at 34 years old
Planning is well underway for this year’s race which again promises to be a Fun-Family-Friendly day out- registration Fee is Eur20.
Those who wish to take part have three choices on offer; 10km run a 5km walk or a 30km/50km Cycle
They had 1,414 participants in 2010 which was fantastic for an inaugural event while 2011 saw 1,700 participants
Event spokesperson Paul Touhy joined John in studio to encourage people to support the event
Retired professional boxer and former WBA, and European super bantamweight champion Bernard Dunne will be participating in the event- he encouraged people to participate
Eimear Murphy of the organising Committee spoke about the charities that are set to benefit this year
The Charities for 2012 are Milford Care Centre, Mid West Rape Crisis Centre and Clare Crusaders
The 2011 charities were TLC4CF, (based in the mid-west to help Cystic Fibrosis sufferers), Clare Crusaders & Mid Western Cancer Care Centre with each charity receiving €11,000 each.

Clare ISPCA Warden Frankie Coote joined John in studio to advise animal owners of their legal obligations
After a calf was killed by loose dogs in Bunratty and a loose dog in Shannon attacked another dog out walking with its owner Frankie reiterated the owners reponsibility to keep their dogs restrained and under control.
