Rent control proposals went to cabinet this week. After a year of controversy over the so-called 'rent certainty' proposals that threatened to split the coalition, the government has agreed plans to address Ireland’s growing rental bubble crisis. Pat spoke to Clare Labout TD, Michael McNamara.
Morning Focus heard that the state of rural Ireland is becoming a major issue ahead of the General Election. Garda stations and Post Offices have disappeared and rural services in general are in decline. IMO members this week called on listeners to get involved in the Save Rural General Practice Campaign. Pat spoke to Dr Michael Kelleher of Lahinch, a member of the IMO’s GP committee.
This week, the EPA’s Office of Radiological Protection launched a dedicated communication campaign to generate awareness of the high levels of radon gas in Clare. This radioactive gas is linked to the development of lung cancer and the EPA is encouraging householders across Clare to carry out a simple test to ensure they are not being exposed to this colourlesss, odourless and tasteless gas. According to the EPA, Clare is a high risk county. Pat spoke to Dr Stephanie Long, Senior Scientist with the EPA.
Dr Terri Shoosmith joined Pat in studio for a lively discussion on the Celts and their place in Ireland. Her talk, entitled 'Boasters, threateners and lyric poets – the Celts and their place in Ireland' was organised in conjunction with the Burren Beo Trust.
Ahead of a special gig at the Kilkishen Arts Centre, Eleanor Shanley joined Pat in studio and performed a beautiful version of ‘Forever Young’.
