We heard earlier last week on Morning Focus that new bye-laws on burial grounds have been adopted by Clare County Council. While those are designed to go some way towards managing issues like the size of monuments and headstones and anti-social behaviour; they can't address the problem of limited at space and a lack of burial plots. Those problems are being felt in Newmarket on Fergus, where Lemenagh Graveyard is running short of space. The issue was raised at this month's meeting of Shannon Municipal District and is to be the subject of a public meeting in the coming weeks, as Cllr Pat McMahon told Gavin.
Gavin also spoke to Tommy Comerford and Willie Hanrahan about the Doonbeg Pride of Place award which saw it named overall winner of Category 2 for population centres of between 300 and 1,000 people.
