Morning Focus – Wednesday 10th April 2019

Today’s show was full to the brim with local news stories and local events. We heard about armed gardaí patrols in Clare, changes to the Clare Bus service as well as a rural opportunities roadshow, an instrument appeal and a fashion show at St Flannan’s College.

First up on the show, Clare FM’s James Mulhall spoke to DI Kieran Ruane about the new armed gardaí patrols being introduced across Clare as part of a crackdown on travelling gangs.

Next on the show, Minister Michael Ring was on air to talk about a Rural Opportunities roadshow in North Clare today. The event is designed to raise awareness of the range of government supports available to rural communities.

If you’re a regular listener, you know that recent changes to the Clare Bus service has caused upset, as its coordination looks set to be lost to Limerick. Marion from Kilrush, a regular user of the service, was on to explain what this means for her.

Just before the news, Gavin Grace spoke to Nicholas Ryan-Purcell whose award-winning documentary on living with autism is showing in glór this evening at 7 pm.

Next, we were joined by Corofin-based counsellor Pauline Bradley who spoke about her work with the Clare Haven.  For over 20 years, she has facilitated the Insights programme for groups of victims of domestic abuse, including acts of violence and coercive control.

The group project is designed to be supportive, and educational. There is also an Insights for Parents programme, which helps parents support their children, who have often witnessed abuse. It starts again at the end of April. Listen back to the interview below:

If you’re looking for further information on these schemes, it’s available from Clare Haven (www.clarehaven.ie) and Pauline herself (www.paulinebradley.ie)

If you’re affected by these issues, you can contact Clare Haven on 065 6822435, while men can reach out to Amen on 046 9023718.

Then on the show, we were joined by Brian Flynn to listen to The Greatest Song You’ve Probably Never Heard.

Afterwards, Gavin spoke to Muireann Byrne & Aisling Flouch from Coláiste Muire to talk about the annual music instrument appeal, which has been running for four years now. All together, they have donated over 300 instruments to local schools and this year the instruments are going to Holy Family Senior School. Catch up below:

Next on Morning Focus, we hear about the Fashion Show organised by TYs of St Flannan’s College tomorrow evening. We hear about all of the companies involved, as well as what we can expect on the night and who will be strutting down that catwalk. Listen back to find out where you can get tickets:

Lastly on the show, John Underhill joined us in the studio to answer your pet and livestock related questions. Listen back to hear his advice on hernias:
